etree,

since the moderator is confused im going to assume some of the rest of you are too. the shows are not being uploaded to a pay site or any website at all. they are being upload to usenet (aka newsgroups) which is the same place you can find rec.music.phish and thousands of other groups.. im actually surprised etree doesn't use usenet instead of a mailing list, the 2 are very similar. It was discovered some time ago that binary files could be posted to usenet servers if they are encoded
as text files. your binary usenet downloader grabs the text files and decodes them back to binary. everything you need to know about the process is at http://www.slyck.com/ng.php . The only requirement is that you have usenet access (nntp). My isp, charter.net offers usenet access at no additional charge at the nntp server news.charter.net, however I don't use that server. I pay for giganews- news.giganews.com because they retain posts longer then my isp does, as long as 200 days, whereas charter only holds posts for a week maybe 2. Not all of you will be able to download using this method, for some people it will just be way to confusing, for others, their isp's might not carry newsgroups. However If you are familiar with binary Usenet downloading you know it is far and away the best method for sharing binary files on the internet. Im going to continue to post shows on usenet to the newsgroup alt.binaries.sounds.lossless and everytime I do that I will send an email to the etree letting people know its there. As for the links I posted before, those were just linking to the .nzb file. A .nzb file is to usenet what .torrent file is to bitttorent. Its just a pointer file that tells your downloading program where to grab the files from. The moderator must of clicked on one of my links to the nzb file, saw that it appeared you need a premium membership to download it (you don't) and also probably didn't understand that only the nzb file was being linked to. You don't need a .nzb file to download from usenet, its just a convenience. You can manually browse usenet with your binary usenet downloader and select each file and do it that way.. its just much more time consuming. In the future I will upload the .nzb files for those that want them to a site that doesn't use advertising, if I can find one, if I cant you will just have to get the nzb file yourself on usenet, as I post the .nzb file to alt.binaries.sounds.lossless as well, its always the first thread. Confused? head to http://www.slyck.com/ng.php and that will walk you through it.
