It's been a bit of time since I wrote, so I figured I'd give everyone a
list-wide update of what's been happening on the Server Team side, here
at etree.org.  We hope you are all very well and had a great Fourth Of
July, be it here in the US or elsewhere.
 
 
First of all, special Kudos go to both TomA and MGoldey.  Tom, for the
newest additions to the db look and interface (http://db.etree.org).
Mark has lots to do over there, as well, but this is Tom's masterpiece.
He totally rocks.  Mark also has been working tirelessly at implementing
SPAM intervention at the forums (http://forums.etree.org).  Some of you
may notice the ones that get through, but trust me, there's about a
brazzillion more that get turned away before making it into the board at
all.  Thanks, too, to moderators GregY and Twatts for keeping on top of
things over there.  It's family friendly because of those guys.  All
these d00ds deserve many thanks for their hard behind the scenes work...
 
Secondly, special thanks to Phrog for the efforts maintaining the email
server, without which we'd not have any of the email lists we take for
granted.  That's a thankless job.  Spam, virus, and stability
maintenance are all pretty much his responsibility.  Thanks mang!
 
 
OK - Clearly the announce@ list is effectively dead.  I wish it wasn't
true - we all remember the days of those announce@ posts and grabbing
those precious slots.  If you're getting this through announce@, with
rare exception, these are the only posts you're going to get there until
the forseeable future.  BitTorrent has just taken on too much strength,
and FTP looks to be going the way of the CDR.  The list will remain
live, of course, should there be any announcements to make.  
 
This is the case for etree@ as well, but for a different reason.  It
seems the stimulation from DISCUSSING trading has waned with the
impersonal instant gratification of BT.  If you're getting this through
etree@, POST SOMETHING!  PLEASE!  There are those of us out there that'd
like to talk about this stuff!  Of course, this brings me to the next
thing...
 
...FORUMS!!!  Yes, I DO think the forums have assumed the role of
etree at .  They've also assumed the role of help@, seeds@, siteops@,
announce@, and dingleberry at .  Basically, if you're not on the forums,
you're missing out.  Check it out.  http://forums.etree.org
 
 
Fourthliers - there have been several posts to the Server Team about a
few issues.  I'll talk about two of them...
 
EXCESSIVE BOUNCES FROM THE LIST - SUBSCRIPTION DISABLED!!!
 
 
What does this mean?  It means our post was returned to us when we tried
to send it to you.  Why does this happen?  It's due to any conceivable
reason.  My current favourite is, "Internet Hiccups."  I've been telling
people to dunk their computers, upside down, in a bucket of water until
it stops.  
 
But, in all reality, probably following the instructions you get in the
email would be best.  We even tell you your password if you forgot it.
Aren't we thoughtful?  We honestly apologize for the inconvenience, but
this is what happens sometimes with stuff like this...
 
 
SHNAMP PLUGIN ERRORS 
 
 
Ok - so we've been REALLY slack about updating the home page.  As soon
as we figure out who's supposed to do that, we'll blame them, but until
then....
 
YES - THERE IS A SHNAMP PLUGIN THAT IS VERIFIED TO WORK WITH THE LATEST
VERSION OF WINAMP!!!!
 
NO - I DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT!!!
 
YES - I WILL EMAIL IT TO YOU.  (Thanks Wayne)
 
Please just email me DIRECTLY - damien at etree.org.  The server will blow
up faster than a Norwegian Fireworks Factory if it gets tossed to the
list.  We are seriously looking to update the etree front page, so be
patient.  Thanks!
 
 
Finalliest...  It is with a VERY heavy heart I announce PJP's stepping
down, officially, from the Server Team.  While he will remain in a
consultant role for us, his other life obligations take him elsewhere
and at great speed.  Pearl Jam Pete, as I always like to think of him,
was instrumental in my getting involved in etree, and I'd like to extend
personal thanks to him for his friendship and involvement that has been
felt by us all.  His super secret email address will hopefully remain
live, so drop him a line and let him know you love him.  No, I won't
give it to you.  :)  Thanks Peej!

offer, I guarantee, you won't be disappointed.  The Server Team really
thanks this community for being, year after year, the best family for
worldwide legal lossless live music.  We are humbled by how easy you
make us make it look...
