[etree] Wav vs. wav.bak files

Hello,
When using the mkw audio compression tool, I get music files that are given wav.bak extension to them.  I didn't think that there was any difference in these files other than one is a backup to the other but I can get them to play fine on my computer but not on my stereo.  Am I doing something obviously wrong when using the software?
