Recently a trading friend of mine passed away. His name is Bob Comiskey, also
known as "Jack Straw" on the radio program Dead Air that he co-hosted
at KXCI in Tuscon. His co-host buddies did a memorial show for him this
past June on Dead Air and Bob's ladyfriend passed on copies of the show
and includes 3 hours of Dead (of course), plus some other tasty nuggets and commentary
about and by Bob "Jack Straw" Comiskey.

Personal notes:

My name is Kenn Kemp and am currently retired and living on the Big
Island of Hawaii (not far I hear from where Dick Latvala once lived). I
first connected with Bob Comiskey after returning from vaca in Hawaii
(when I was still a working stiff) and stopped in at a book store at
home in Salem OR. I found a recent book about the Dead that was selling
used. Surprised me cuz this book just came out. Found out the book came
from a guy who did book reviews for the Statesman Journal and brought
it in to get credit for books in da store. Took it up to the counter,
feeling flush with my good fortune and come to find out that the old
couple behind the counter were surprised that the book had lasted so
long (couple weeks) and that they had actually been to a Dead concert.
Really went to the concert with their son, and that they really enjoyed
the show. They said that the show they went to was 8-28-88 in Eugene
OR. My wife exclaimed that this was the only Dead show that she had
been to also. Well...I had been collecting Dead tapes for awhile and
had amassed an impressive collection, and thought that I surly had a
copy. Nada! Did an extensive web search for this show and finally came
up with it being broadcast at one point at KXCI in Tucson. I contacted
the web site and got an email from Bob saying they had a cassette copy,
which he could easily convert to CD because he had access to the
stations equipment. He also said that he could also get me copies of
the opening acts...Robert Cray and Jimmy Cliff. Cool! So...do you
trade? We exchanged lists and to my delight he had a gob of Dead shows
I didn't. At this point we became trading buddies and swapped many a
show. We traded for a couple years until I had everything he did and
did B&P's for remaining shows he didn't have.

Last year I went to Hell Paso to take care of my ailing brother and on
the way back I stopped in to visit Bob in Tucson. It's so great to
finally meet someone that you have been trading with. He shows me
around his place that he shares with his ladyfriend, Nancy. "This is
the living room, here's the bathroom, the guest room where you'll
be staying, my office (with his Dead collection), here's the
backyard, the swimming pool, the garage and the BSA motorcycle I'm
restoring, here's the cat that eats lizards and gets sick (you'd
think they'd learn), here's the kitchen and here's the fridge
where the beer is. I don't want to have to tell you again." I love
this guy...a perfect host!

I only spent a day with Bob and it was delightful. He shared some very
interesting Dead stories. Met Jerry on numerous occasions (Jer taught
him a few licks on banjo), and some interesting concert stories. His
first show was 2/14/68 and I do believe he saw every Dead show while he
was living in the Bay Area in the '60's and '70's.
