Hey now

Hello friends, long time no speak on my part. Been reading a lot of
Vonnegut lately, I go through this exact spell about once every five
years, read his entire works in a month or two. Refreshing. Since
that's been in my head, i'll hook up big kickdowns for a couple folks.
Just tell me what ice-nine is (other than the GD publishing company, of
course) and pick some shows. Since ice-nine is being evoked, maybe they
should be Dead shows at that. 10 shows should do the trick nicely, i
think. I'll probably pick more than a couple winners, if i know myself
at all, so come & get it.

I really miss this list a lot of times. I feel especially bad for the
guys who have joined in the last 2-3 years. This place used to f**kin'
RAGE! I can remember days when my mail lady literally begged me to slow
down. 15-20 mailers a day was not really all that uncommon. I know there
are a few guys here that can remember getting 200+ emails in a day. It
could be overwhelming, yes, but it was beautiful to be a music junkie.
I mean, bt is nice and all, but it's never going to brighten up a
weekend by slipping a little rule #5 or vitamin Owsley in with the last
4 shows you needed to complete 1977. The machines have done wonders for
efficiency, but they have no damn soul or sense of community. Anybody
remember driving a couple hours to meet some kid you barely knew in a
seedy bar on the wrong side of a strange town so you could exchange
stacks of XLIIs that sounded like they had been recorded with a sock
over the mike? Granted, the sound quality is tremendous these days and
convenience IS a wonderful concept. But if one of my spindles of shows
on DVD happened to fall into the trash and go away, so what?? Request a
couple reseeds and spend some time in the archive and its all good.
Never have to leave the living room. But those dirty 5th gen tapes were
PRIZED fucking possessions!!! They had histories of their own. They
took vacations, then came back home. I got in the car with a kid in
Arizona once who I had known for all of 3 minutes. We did the business,
and started talking about tapes. He pulls out his case, and damned if i
didn't see my handwriting on a j-card. Beautiful. I gave him a few more
to go with it.

I'm not a (complete) idiot. I'm not going to throw this damn box out
the window when i finish this rant. If i did that ranting wouldn't be
nearly as fulfilling. I am, however, going to try to be a little more of
the kind trader i remember being and a little less lazy and dependent on
machines. Anybody remember Freebie Friday? That would be cool to see
again. If you can find it in you to join me in my little revolt against
modern convenience, give up some tunes this Friday. Offer a freebie or
2 the list. Turn off the BT and offer a couple log-ins. Find a newbie
and be Jerry Claus for a minute. Hell, burn some audio and print some
covers and give 'em to a random tie-die at the corner bar. Just step
away from the f**kin machine and indulge in some actual human
interaction. It might actually be good for you. Science is proving
strange and wondrous things every day.

WOB (since my mouth ran away with me for a minute) :: I don't know if
this is actually kosher, but what the hell. I have an extra copy (not
illegal, I bought 2) of "God Bless You, Dr. Kevorkian" by Mr. Vonnegut,
of whom I am so fond as of late. First address that would like to have
it can. I'll throw in a random nugget (show) just for kicks.

I'm going to go back now and turn all the little "uc"s into "**"s now,
just for you Damien, and for any kiddies, or sensitive folks out
there. Profanity gives people who don't want to hear unpleasant
information an excuse not to listen , but old habits die hard.

Love you folks, YOU are my bros and sisters.
