So me and my traveling companion Jena arrived at the show before the band. We called
them up and they said to hang tight, they would be there soon. Apparently, they had let
Lapdog drive the bands RV, and on the way to the show there had been a slight mishap....
ol' lappy had taken a turn too hard and had taken off some guys bumper with the side/back
of the rv (doh!) putting a big scratch on the side of it while removing the other guys bumper.
he wasnt pleased to say the least when he arrived, but said he was ready to rock.

The documentary film crew showed up to film, and they set up to film a scene with the 2 guys
who seem to be at every EA show with mics. I got to watch that happen in the back of the club
Meanwhile, we mentioned we had some fungus to Aiwass, and he said he was all about it, so Jena went
out to our car to hook it up. She ended up goin on the bus and partying with the band for like
45 minutes. Aiwass ate a bunch of fungus, and the band and jena smoked down. Then it was time
for the show. They were being filmed bigtime, that whole rumour is totally true....like at least
3 cameras that i saw, 2 of them on stage. There were also like 3 or so tapers rigs set up,
mine being one of them. The next time i saw aiwass, he was somewhat slanty eyed (!!) and was spouting
something about mountain girl (jerry garcia's ex) coming up to eugene and filming an
enterview with the band. He also said the next night in Santa cruz there was gonna be an
enterview with High Times (which he said he reads hardcore, as does gordo) and they were gonna get
a 3 page spread in next months high times!

So the show started up, and they played a great "burning man", with references to the fest that
would be happening in the next week. I spoke to lapdog, and he said he would be going up to
burning man on thursday this week, he was super excited about it. Said he had been so stoked
with last years festivities that this years version was gonna be the shit!

next up was gordo's "sugar train blues" and it started out strong, but gordo faultered and
forgot the lyrics at one point. Not the greatest version of that song, but decent as always.
Gordo is such a showman, he more thsn made up for it on the solo, bu the jam didnt seem to go anywhere.

Next up was Aiwass'es classic "future will blow your mind"..you could just tell that geeked out aiwass
had started to feel the fungus we had given him (i also asked lapdog if he wanted any and he was
like "i am trying to do my JOB, man! maybe later....") Well, aiwass proceeded to also fuck up
the lyrics to his song (ha!) and gordo caught it and smiled and really really killed the guitar
solo on this version...perhaps the most rocked out solo this song has ever seen! Aiwass was improv-ing
lyrics by the end, obviously really high (!!!) The camera guys onstage were really getting up
in the bands faces, and they were really loving that.

Up after that was lapdogs "uncle petes party" a real tongue in cheek rocker about Lapdogs uncle pete
(who lapdog claims used to hang tough with george W. bush and do tons of coke with him!!!)...before
going into it, Aiwass spouted something about the feeling coming from his "lower heart chakra"
and lapdog did a little drum jam that lead into the "uncle petes". This was where the band really started
kicking it hard, the drums and bass locked in and this really rocked the house hard. Up to
this point in the show, the band seemed to somewhat go thru the motions. But once they got rockin
on "uncle petes" things started to really GO! Gordos hendrix-y and garcia-esque licks on
this one were really hitting hard, as was lapdog nailing the vocals like never before. Although
it didnt reach the heights that the "uncle petes" from high sierra (that show freaking ROCKED!
Glad the film crew videoed that one!) it seemed like a less noodl-y version, much more rocked
out than normal. It was obvious to all that aiwass was geeked out of his mind during this one...
but it didnt seem to affect his playing at all. Lapdog added a lyric they hadnt sang before
about "gordo ate a handfull of peyote......howling at the moon like a big coyote.....strangest
thing i ever did see.......gordo started humpin that cinnamon tree....." which had us all rolling
on the floor with laughter! Probably inspired by recent events, gordo really screamed on the solo
like a banshee from hell on guitar! Started to remind me of lapdogs old metal band he used to play
in! Hershel also made his presence known on this track, his keyboard playing was downright
NASTY, with Gordo screaming his solo. Then gordo dropped a "third stone from the sun" solo in the
middle of it, after which Lapdog called gordo a "kind rainbro"

Hershels "Back roads" was up next, and it was played to a t......hershel has the best voice in the
band, i am convinced. They really smoked during this one. Lapdog put quite a kick in it, and
gordos solo was smashing! Aiwass said "LA is love!!!" leading into it, and hershels keyboard
solo was stunning. The band was really starting to cook on this....and although it wasnt as
sick as the sweetwater version in may (best ever version in my opinion!)

Gordo got a chant of "lapdog" goin, and gordo and aiwass chatted about a police song, then gordo
chugged a beer....

then to close the set, we were treated to Aiwass'es "YOG", described by a friend of mine as taken
out of a page of metallicas "the thing that should not be" songbook. A total dungeons-and dragons
feel permeated this one. Although it was a extremely well played version, Aiwass (who was plenty
geeked out at that point, and kept shooting hilarious looks at me and jena!) sort of slacked on the
intro, just talking his way thru it instead of the way he did it at high sierra (which was the BEST!)
Yog jam at the end really smoked, and this version probably clocked in over 15+ minutes, leaving the
crowd screaming for more.

Lapdog came back out and thanked the crowd for the support like always and explained that they
werent planning on coming out for another one, but that they felt obliged since the crowd was
freaking out...and they treated us to a sick version of lapdog's "pancakes"....a song they
hadnt played since May(!!!) at sweetwater. Ol Lappy hadnt sang it in so long that he had to
have a lyric sheet down for it, which i scored after the show. Another great version of this,
although not the raging version it was the last time they played it...it seemed like lapdog kinda
ran out of steam on this one, and the jam cooked along until suddenly lapdog just ended it...and the
rest of the band continued to play without him, ending in a spacy flourish! Even though weve
seen better "pancakes" it was great to see it reintroduced to the setlist! One chick had a
poster she held up to lapdog that night that perhaps inspired it....it read "93 days since the
last PANCAKES!" It was nice of them to include it, and a great way to end the night. The tapes
came out good, but not as good as the next night in santa cruz or the night after thaT in eugene.
Keep your eyes out, the next two shows reviews and torrents will be coming soon! And the band said
theyre movie "electric apricot, the quest for festeroo" will be premiering at the sundance
festival next january supposedly. And the next EA gig will be on Wavy Gravy's Hog Farm in
Laytonville CA the weekend of sept 16-18. See you all there!!!!!!!!

peace to you all brothers and sisters!!!

Jimbo
